For the benefit of the curious (and bless you for asking, dear boy), this is the photo on the rear cover of A Collection Of Beatles Oldies… But Goldies!
It was taken by Robert Whitaker in the Tokyo Hilton, while the band were in town to play two shows at the Budokan Hall in June 1966.
(It is alleged that the smoke in the photograph may not have eminated from your actual Benson and Hedges, if you catch my drift.)
Effectively prisoners in the hotel, the band ingested a gargantuan amount of marijuana and collaboratively produced a painting titled Images Of A Woman.
The Minister may not know much about art, but he knows what he likes and he wouldn’t hang this on his wall…
